Manager of Operations
It has been a busy New Year at Prince Albert SPCA. In January we held a volunteer information night to explain our volunteer programs and opportunities to you. We had an awesome turn out with many eager volunteers signing up! For those of you who missed it- here are some of our great Volunteer Programs:
Puppy Pals: A program designed to train volunteers to spend one on one time with our Shelter puppies. Learn how to introduce them to new sights and sounds through interactive play and specialized exercises.
Feline Friends: Learn how Play Therapy can assist Shelter cats. Learn cat body language and how to release tension and encourage calm interaction.
Canine Companions: Clicker training and basic manners for our Shelter Dogs. Help them to be a Good Canine Citizen!
Foster: We offer a training session for Foster Families to teach neo natal feeding, care, and tips for success.
These programs are ongoing. Don’t be shy! Contact us to join in.
We are so pleased to have the opportunity to have our “Home Away From Home” Satellite Adoption Center at Gateway Mall. We are there every Saturday from 11am-3pm with adoptable dogs and cats. We also have pet supplies and other fundraiser items for sale.
As we continue to build our volunteer base this year you will see us at many community events including Rib fest, Ag Ex, Father/Daughter Gala, Lobster Fest, SPCA Garage Sale, and Walk for Paws! Don’t forget our monthly Paint Night Fundraisers! They are great fun!
On a more serious note, we continue to keep abreast of ongoing Animal Rights Legislation and upgrade our training through our memberships with the Saskatchewan Federation of Humane Societies, the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies and The Animal Protection Association of Urban Municipalities.
From Jan 1 to March 20 we have had 241 dogs and cats enter our Shelter in need of assistance. Your support has helped us to provide vet care to animals in distress, reunite 62 lost pets with their families, and adopt out 109 pets to their forever home. We have reached out to other Agencies and have transferred 72 dogs and cats to Shelters as far away as Victoria with 100% of those transfers adopted into new homes! It truly takes a village.
Our message this year is Together We Make A Difference. We encourage you to come out to the Shelter and get involved! We welcome you to help The Prince Albert SPCA and our continued commitment to the Animals of Prince Albert and surrounding area.
