2018 was a great year for the Prince Albert SPCA. We worked on building strong relationships both within and outside of our beautiful city. Because of those relationships, we were able to save and rehome upwards of 1300 animals. We added some amazing bench strength to our already strong team of staff. We had several successful fundraisers, adding fun into our community while making enough to continue on our mission of saving animals. We also introduced our new set of Core Values to the shelter,(please see our values page) and have been working towards ensuring every decision we make is guided by these values.

In 2019, we hope to continue down the road of repairing, building, and maintaining strong relationships throughout not just our city, but our province and our country. In line with our new values, and our goal to serve our city and our animals in the best way possible, we have begun introducing and paying for further education for our staff. Lee, a long term member of our society began to pursue his diploma in animal behaviour and training. We hope to see him finish that in 2019, and take the next step into offering animal training at discounted rates to those who adopt from us. As well, Lee will be better able to provide rescue to those animals whose behaviour needs a little extra bit of tweaking.

In 2019 we have also introduced an employee benefit plan to our shelter; as those that care for the animals need to ensure someone is caring for them. This is again, in response to our new values.

In terms of 2019 fundraising, we have many exciting avenues to explore, and I hope that you will stay tuned to our Facebook page for upcoming events. Whether it be a bike ride for the animals, or a beer in the sun, we’ve got a way for you to enjoy yourself while helping us help the animals.

I would like to welcome everyone to please come into the shelter and say hello! As many of you know, I am new to the Director of Operations role, beginning in October of 2018. I would love to speak in person with each of you about what we are doing and the changes we are making. As well, we can always use a helping hand to wash up and walk dogs.

To those of you who know us well, thank you for everything you do to keep us going. For those of you who have yet to make our acquaintance, I look forwards to any and all opportunities in the coming year to meet you, and show you why we’re a great organization to become a part of.

Here’s to 2019 PA, let’s make it another great one!
